Why is financial Inclusion not able to move beyond creating access? Why is access not translating to effective credit delivery and unleashing a virtuous cycle of economic growth and improved living standards. The well being of India’s people its economy and polity depend on a vigorous and effective system of credit delivery.

In my book Defeating Poverty: Jan Dhan and Beyond, published after the introduction of Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) in 2014, I noted that a poverty alleviation programme has to be financially viable if it has to succeed. Jan Dhan Yojana, launched on August 28, 2014, is undoubtedly the most extensive concerted effort taken in the financial inclusion sphere in India.
